🔍 What Is Indexed?
The metadata collected depends on the type of document (file, email, message, etc.) being indexed in Outmind.
Some metadata is used directly for indexing — for example, a file’s title — and helps surface documents in search results.
Beyond the title, Outmind also analyzes the folder structure and binary content of files through text parsing.
Only the extracted text content is stored in the search index.
All data is encrypted end-to-end and at rest, and is only decrypted and visible to users with appropriate access rights to the original files.
🧠 Other Uses of Metadata
Certain metadata is used to calculate relevance scores (see How the relevance algorithm works).
Others are used for filters or to enhance the search interface, like showing a thumbnail for quick recognition of a document.
